OSCA Removes KHC Amidst Issues of Transparency

Oberlin Student Cooperative Association (OSCA) is a student-owned and operated non-profit corporation at Oberlin College. OSCA provides housing and dining services to hundreds of students and currently includes nine co-ops. On March 18 the OSCA Board of Directors chose to remove one of these co-ops from the Association.

Classes Cancelled for Reflection on Recent Events

In the past few years, the Oberlin College community has experienced acts of racism, homophobia, queerphobia and anti-Semitism. The most recent surge of hate speech began on February 9, with the defacement of posters advertising events for Black History Month. Instances of hateful signs and graffiti did not stop there, and over the following weeks included racist and homophobic slurs written outside the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) on February 12, various incidences of swastikas painted on buildings and student advertisements, and a strong-armed robbery which targeted a student for his perceived ethnic identity on February 17.

Clue The Musical Provides an Evening of Fun in a Semester of Heavy Theater

Touted as an evening of campy fun, Clue The Musical, which opened in Wilder Main on Thursday February 22, certainly delivered its promise. The musical is based on the beloved board game Clue, and immerses the audience in a step-by-step crime scene in which they are encouraged to assemble clues to solve the mysterious murder of Mr. Boddy. Only a minimalistic set and a few props were needed to complement a cast of eight excellent actors and singers as they transported the audience to a world of light-hearted and skillfully executed comedy.

Forum Opens Discussion on College’s “No Trespass List”

Oberlin students and residents young and old packed into the Oberlin Public Library on the evening of February 13 to discuss the No Trespass list.  People with red sashes tied around their arms, primarily students, ushered the attendees into the library past steaming spaghetti, into a heated discourse on justice, fairness, and the Oberlin No Trespass list.

For Lucia Joyce, Charm Is Not Enough To Be Happy

From February 7 through February 9, Hall Auditorium served as the setting of Paris, London, and Zurich in the 1930s in Lucia Mad by Don Nigro. For a good two and a half hours the audience could watch James Joyce’s daughter spiraling into madness, a madness that could easily be recognized as one’s own juvenile frenzies about life. This play is about a father-daughter relationship, the difficulties of growing up and distancing oneself from one’s own parents, and the “normal madness” of life. It touches upon themes that unsettle us because we recognize them as issues that could turn anyone mad.
