Top 5 Reasons to Use (and Not to Use) a Bike on Campus

Occasionally I wonder whether I ride my bike on campus too often.  There are certain advantages to walking over biking that one tends to forget.  Mind you, my trusty seven year old Giant Shamino road bike has been such a great advantage to have on campus that it pains me to give it up for a day or two of repairs—but not everyone feels the same way, and for good reason.  Thus I present to you five reasons why using a bike on campus is awesome (and why it’s not so great).

Students Discuss Possible Improvements to Cultural Diversity Requirement in Forum

Oberlin’s Cultural Diversity requirement will remain virtually the same next semester.  However the controversy surrounding the requirement provides a focal point for discussions on multiculturalism at Oberlin.  This has been particularly true given the incidents of bias and responses from the student body that we have seen this semester.

Celan and Kronauer, Transposed into English

Often it’s when I’m reminded of how imperfect and limited language is that I see, at the same time, a great example of what it can accomplish. I don’t speak German at all.  Nor had I ever heard until last week of the poet Paul Celan or the writer Brigitte Kronauer.  Yet this Sunday, February 24 at the Baron Gallery, I was part of a small audience of Oberlin faculty, students, and Oberlin residents that gained access to the wonderfully expressive works of both authors.
