At their plenary meeting Sunday night, Student Senate formed a working group to investigate student access to an itemized tuition bill. Senate also resolved to meet with the administration to discuss increasing student access to convocation speakers and other high profile visitors.
Multiple students voiced their concerns to Kyla Moore over the lack of term bill transparency. Students would like to see their tuition itemized so they could see exactly where their $50,000 goes. The students discussed the positives of seeing where their tuition went. With more financial transparency, “possibly students wouldn’t be as upset or annoyed with what was happening on campus,” said Kyla.
The Senate voted unanimously to form the working group that Kyla will chair. Also in the group is Alix Simonson, Kalen Sharrard, Christina Rodriguez and Matt Presto.
A student approached Luke Squire with a concern over the amount of access students have to speakers in comparison to the administration’s access. The idea was for Senate to take a much more active roll in scheduling the speakers schedules with students. “I think it’s a really good opportunity to let students have a lot more access to our speakers,” said Luke.
Luke will meet with Gretchen Tolson, from the Office of Stewardship and Public Programs, soon to discuss the policies regarding speakers’ schedules.
